The last set of fixtures has just been competed for the 2008 Champions League Round of 16, save for Inter Milan - Liverpool which will be completed on Tuesday March 11 since the San Siro was being occupied this week by crosstown rivals AC Milan in their epic 2-0 loss to Arsenal. Arsenal advance on an aggregate score of 2-0 following a goalless draw the week before at Emirates Stadium. If Liverpool can hold on to their 2-0 aggregate lead against Inter then they will join fellow Premier League teams Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal in the Quartefinals. United dispatched of Lyon in a tight battle, 1-0, to advance by an aggregate score of 1-0. Chelsea hammered Olympiakos 3-0 at Stamford Bridge (advancing by the same aggregate score).

Joining the English teams will be Roma, Schalke, and Fenerbache. Roma completed a 4-2 aggregate victory over Real Madrid with an impressive 2-1 performance at the Bernebau. Schalke and Fenerbache on the other hand needed soccer's version of russian roulette, the penalty kick, to advance over their opponents after their aggregate scores could not separate them from their opponents, FC Porto and Sevilla respectively. Sevilla-Fenerbache earned "fixture of the round" after a pair of exciting 3-2 matches with the home team being the victors on both occassions.

The draw for the next round will take place next week after the Inter - Liverpool clash. Can Liverpool hold on or will Inter Milan prevail at home? We'll go over that match plus a preview of the Quarterfinal round on next week's postign.
